CALDERON AND CHAU ENDORSED
The Council unanimously endorsed Marcella Calderon
for the 4 year Board of
Education seat and Edwin Chau for the 2 year seat. Calderon and Chau join
incumbent Richard Adams as the three endorsed MTA candidates. We have from
now until November 2 to transform our endorsed candidates into the millennium
Board members. CSEA has made the same endorsements as we did.
WHY DO WE ENDORSE WHO
The Association had already endorsed friendly
incumbent Richard Adams for the
four year seat last spring. Hence, the task was to endorse the other four
year seat and the two year seat. As you know two separate elections will take
place November 2: a regular and a special election.
The Association invited all candidates who filed to interview. On Friday,
August 27. Those attended: Richard Tafoya, Edwin Chau, Ruben Martinez for the
two year seat and Marcella Calderon for the four year seat. Those who did
not attend were Bob Archuleta and Anna Arriola for the two year seat and
Frank Serrano, Rosie Vasquez, and Hank Ramey for the four year seat. Those
who did not attend effectively forfeited their opportunity to be considered
for the MTA endorsement.
The interview committee included: Karen van der Baan (MPE),Lucille Serrano
(MAI), Sylvia Guerrero (BGA), Adolfo Zamora (MHS), Dolores Rego (BGH), Kathy
K¯hn, Executive Director (adviser), and Melissa Rogers, CTA Staff Intern
(adviser & time keeper.)
The Political Action Committee made a recommendation to the Executive
Committee on September 7.
A forum was held on Tuesday, September 14. All members were invited to
participate. All candidates were invited to participate. Those who attended
were Bob Archuleta, Edwin Chau, and Ruben Martinez for the two year seat and
Frank Serrano, Rosie Vasquez, and Marcella Calderon for the four year seat.
The Council heard the Executive Committee recommendation on Tuesday,
September 21 and unanimously endorsed Marcella Calderon and Edwin Chau.
