Comes the Board Election
The Board of Education election is set for Tuesday, November 6. The filing date closed
Friday, August 10. The candidates are Ed Chau (incumbent), Hector Chacon (incumbent),
Frank Gomez (incumbent), Gerri Guzman, and Anna Maria Arriola. The Association has
already endorsed Ed Chau.
The Political Action Committee will interview all the other candidates August 28
and make an endorsement recommendation to the Executive Committee September 4.
An Open Forum will be held Monday, September 10, 3:30 p.m. at MOI. All candidates
are invited to participate. All members of the Association
are invited and encouraged to ask questions of the candidates.
The final endorsements will be made on Tuesday, September 11 at the Council meeting.
The MTA Association for Better Citizenship will contribute money to the endorsed
candidates. The Association will also seek funds from the CTA PAC for the endorsed
candidates.
And, you guessed, the month of October will be filled with phone banking.
When can Meetings be Scheduled?
The Contract guarantees that meetings are not scheduled
on days preceding holidays and weekends. Specifically, Article IV. Hours and Assignments
Section G.2. (page 5) states that meetings cannot be held
Friday afternoons
Afternoon of the day prior to a holiday
Afternoon of the day prior to a recess
Day of a required evening meeting.
The Contract also states that no more than 2 hours
of meetings may be required per school month within the Board Day and no more than
3 hours of meetings may be required per school month outside of the Board Day. For
