President Chu Awarded
the President Dorothy Chu will be awarded the CTA Southeastern Service Center Council State We Honor Ours (WHO) Award at a banquet Wednesday, June 6. Dorothy has served as president of this Association for the past four years. She was selected for this award based on her outstanding achievements at the chapter level, UniServ Board level, Service Center Council level, the State CTA level, and the National NEA level. Dorothy's work on behalf of educators throughout California has earned her this very distinguished award! Information for Those Considering Any Bargaining Unit member at his/her option may
sell back and be paid for any unused current-year sick leave days for that year at
the end of each school year. Payment will be made at the current rate of substitute
teacher pay ($130 per day). Sold-back sick days do not accumulate. Attention to those changing

CTA Awards Scholarships Laura Walker's (EAI) two children both received
CTA scholarships, also. Each scholarship is worth $2000. Would You Like to Present at the
The CTA Good Teaching Conference is scheduled for January 25-27 and March 1-3, 2002. Presenters are needed to give workshops on all aspects of instruction and for all levels. Applications are available at the MTA office. Working Together to Many membersí have discovered that their retirement
benefits will be less than planned on because of two provisions in federal law that
reduce a personís Social Security benefits if they are also receiving a public pension,
such as STRS. These two laws are the Governmental Pension Offset (GPO) and the Windfall
Elimination Provision (WEP). Both CTA and NEA are working to eliminate these two
provisions. |
