The Bargaining Team has Reached Tentative Agreement on Several Articles. Hours and Assignments
-Teachers who are called upon to substitute during the school day will be paid on
each occurrence. Currently teachers are paid retroactively for the first two occurrences
after the third occurrence. The new language will be effective July 1. MTA BUDGET The Council will set a budget for the 1998-99 school year. For more information talk to a Building Rep. AMAE AND
CABE The Association of Mexican American Educators (AMAE) and the California Association for Bilingual Education (CABE), Montebello chapters awarded four colleagues Teacher of the Year on Friday, May 15. The recipients were Guadalupe Angeles (SUI) Juan Herrera (SUE), Terry Hirsch (BGI), and Liz Lowe (BGH). Congratulations! MASTER OF EDUCATION The University of La Verne is offering a Master of Education for the Classroom Teacher. Summer classes will begin Sunday, June 20. CHICAGO -THE MUSICAL The MTA Night Committee is sponsoring a day at the theater. Tickets for Chicago are available now. The performance will be Sunday, June 21, at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $63 each. For more information contact Clarissa Banda (SHS) at extension 6657. REVENUE AND EXPENSE OPEN HEARING The Revenue and Expense Committee monitors the spending of the District. The Committee will hold an open hearing on Tuesday, June 9, 3:45 p.m. at La Merced Intermediate School. All are welcome. OPEN HEARING ON MERGER Betsy Haaker, NEA Director will be at the Tuesday, June 9 Council Meeting to discuss the possibility of a NEA -AFT merger. All members are welcome. The discussion will be held from 3:30-3:45 p.m. at La Merced Intermediate School. CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT TRAINING The Instruction and Professional
Development (IPD) Committee is sponsoring I Can Do It on Saturday, October
3 from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. This program is designed to improve instructional and
behavioral classroom management skills. The curriculum provides the necessary foundation
for classroom management skills on which other instruction and academic projects
must build: communication styles, interventions for difficult behaviors, and creating
an effective climate, rules, and routines. The training is free of charge. Lunch
will be served. Six district salary credits are offered. The number of participants
is limited. RSVP to the MTA office.
