Dual Blanche Chester Awards

For the first time in the history of MTA two members have been named Blanche Chester Educator Advocate Winners. Both JoAnn Barro (MHS) and Juan Gastelum (SUE) were honored by their peers for their outstanding work with members and faculty clubs. Both JoAnn and Juan have made their sites better places to work, teach, and learn.

Teachers Have Option to Teach 6th

Some high school teachers have been offered the opportunity to teach an additional (sixth) period. Teaching a sixth period is not to be a condition of employment. It is an additional duty. It is the choice of the individual teacher whether or not to accept the additional assignment. Our Contract reads:
By mutual consent, any Bargaining Unit member may be given an additional regular teaching assignment during the preparation time and shall be compensated at one-sixth (1/6) their annual pay.

Bargaining Update

Bargaining begins Thursday, May 24. Chairperson Dianne Garcia-Stevens plans to begin with non-monetary items. The Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, Sharon Nordheim, plans to join the District team Thursday.
