BANKING MINUTES REQUIRES A MEMORANDUM The Association and the District have entered into manu memorandums of understandings at the request of the individual school sites on the subject of banking minutes. The memorandums are site specific waivers of the Contract for no more than one year. In accordance with the MTA Site Specific Waiver Policy, each faculty club which wishes to bank minutes in the 1998-99 school year must make a request to the Executive Committee in writing.
Any faculty club considering banking minutes next year must contact Executive Director Kathy Køhn prior to May 29. TELEPHONE BANKS BEGIN AT MTA OFFICE Thanks to member volunteers telephone banking has begun at the MTA office. Volunteers
have been working hard to defeat proposition 226 and 227. The passage of either proposition
would be devastating to the students in California. Proposition 226 will obstruct
teachers ability to have active political action programs. Proposition 227 will take
away teachers rights to establish appropriate curriculum. LMI ANNIVERSARY All are invited the La Merced 25th anniversary on Thursday, May 14 from 4 - 9 p.m. Food, fun, and fireworks will be part of the celebration. |
TOM CALDERON NEEDS OUR HELP Board member Tom Calderon is running for Assembly in the 58th District. He has telephone banks at his office Monday through Thursday 3 p.m. - 8 p.m. - Saturdays 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. - Sundays 1 p.m. - 8 p.m. The address is 1304 WW. NAPOLITANO RUNNING FOR CONGRESS Grace Napolitano is running for Congress in the 34th District. KAREN PHILLIPS - EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR Karen Phillips (SHA) was named Educator of the Year by the Montebello Rotary Club. She was honored at a luncheon on Wednesday, May 6. Karen was recognized for her work in the adult literacy program. The entertainment at the luncheon featured the Schurr High School Band under the direction of Leonard Narumi and the Bell Gardens High School "Swingers" under the direction of Becky Heacock. Congratulations Karen! BARGAINING BEGINS Negotiations began today. The Association team is led by Chairperson Linda Moran (BGH). The team includes Terri Feickert (BGH), Margie Granado (MPE), Brenda Wade (MAI), and Adolfo Zamora (MHS). Executive Director Kathy Køhn advises the team. The District team is lead by Assistant Superintendent Bill Erwin. He is join by attorney David Kennedy and Bell gardens High School Principal Dell Rosmino. The Association opened five articles and the District opened none. Vote-June 2 |
