Did you know that Governor Schwarzenegger’s call for a “special election” will cost the state an estimated $70 million? Did you know that much of the burden of the cost will fall on counties up and down the state - counties that are already facing serious budget problems? The Governor’s special election will cost Los Angeles County $10 million.
Here’s what $70 million could buy:
- Implement class size reduction in 5,700 classrooms
- Pay for 3.7 million up-to-date textbooks for our students
- Pay the tuition for more than 9,000 UC students and more than 11,000 Cal State students
- Pay for the salaries of almost 2,000 teachers
- Buy more than 1,000 new school busses
- Pay for a year of health insurance for approximately 56,630 uninsured Californians between the ages 19-29.

2005-2006 Assignments
Whenever possible, reassignments shall be announced no later than May 15.
Bargaining Unit members who are reassigned after the beginning of the school year, for program or enrollment needs, shall be given five (5) working days notice. Bargaining Unit members shall be given one (1) day of release time, upon request, before the reassignment actually occurs. At the 6-12 non-self-contained level, this provision shall apply only with site administration approval taking into consideration the time and extra work load incurred as a result of the change.

You May Consider Selling Back Sick Days
1. Members may sell back current sick leave for the year at the end of the school year.
2. Members who were first employed by the District subsequent to July 1, 1980 may sell back current sick leave plus 10 additional accrued sick days upon resignation from the District.
3. Payment will be made at the current rate of substitute pay ($130). Requests for the selling back of sick leave must be made at the end of the school year to the payroll office.
