Prop. 55, the Statewide School Repair and Construction Bond, received a support position from CTA's top governing body. The Bond will provide $12 billion to repair dilapidated schools and build new classrooms to relieve overcrowding -- and it contains strict accountability standards that guarantee school bond funds are used as intended, and not on bureaucracy or waste.

Proposition 56 -- Yes!

Prop. 56, the Budget Accountability Act, received a support position from CTA's top governing body. The Act is the first step to reforming our state budget process by reducing the two-thirds vote requirement to pass the state budget and related tax legislation to 55 percent. It would also force the legislature to pass the budget on time, by withholding the salaries of lawmakers for every day the budget is late.

Proposition 57 & 58 -- Yes!

The CTA State Council of Education voted to support propositions 57 and 58. Proposition 57, the Economic Recovery Bond Act, would prevent deeper cuts to public education and allow the state to sell up to $15 billion in bonds to help pay off the state's budget deficit when interest rates are low. Proposition 58, the California Balanced Budget Act, would prohibit future borrowing to finance state budget deficits and guarantee that the state never spends more than existing revenues.
