
If any Bargaining Unit member maintains a class with excessive students for more than 50% of any semester, the Bargaining Unit member may apply, with adequate documentation, for $150 in additional funds for supplementary materials to enhance the educational program. The application must be made within 20 working days of the ensuing semester. The materials will be purchased during the ensuing semester unless the site administrator and Bargaining Unit member make other arrangements. (MTA -MUSD Contract p.13 Article VII Section C.6.)
Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarships Are Available
PURPOSE
In 1968 after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., CTA established a living memorial in the form of a scholarship fund to aide members of ethnic minorities in preparing for teaching relating careers in public education.GOAL
Total ethnic minority students-63.1%
Total ethnic minority teachers-24.6%
The goal of the Fund is to encourage ethnic minority students to become educators and to promote professional growth for ethnic minority teachers.
ELIGIBILITY
In order to be eligible, an applicant must be pursuing a teaching related career in public education and be a member of defined ethnic minority groups. Applicants must also be:
An active member of CTA, or
An independent child of an active, retired, or deceased CTA member, or A member of Student CTAAPPLICATIONS
Scholarship applications are due Monday, March 15 and are available at the MTA Office and http://www.cta.org.
AVAILABILITY
(35) $2,000 scholarships and (2) $5,000 scholarships will be awarded.
The NEA RA local election includes 1-year, 2-year, and 3-year terms. The Declaration of Candidacy on the January 27 Contact does not list 2-year and 3-year terms. Correct declarations are available from Building Reps and the MTA office. If you plan to run for a 2-year or 3-year term, please use the revised declaration or write in the correct term on the original declaration.
