NEA Convention Will Be Held In Dallas This Summer

The NEA Representative Assembly will be held this July in Dallas, Texas. All members are eligible to run as both local and State candidates.

The local Declaration of Candidacy is on separate flyer which was shipped along with this Contact and is due on Thursday, February 21 to the MTA office. The State Declaration of Candidacy is in the December edition of the California Educator and is printed on the reverse side of this contact. The election will be held on MondayñTuesday, March 18-19. Three-track C and four-track D will vote by mail.

You May Qualify For Funds for Excessive Class Size

If any Bargaining Unit member maintains a class with excessive students for more than 50% of any semester, the Bargaining Unit member may apply, with adequate documentation, for $150 in additional funds for supplementary materials to enhance the educational program. The application must be made within 20 working days of the ensuing semester. The materials will be purchased during the ensuing semester unless the site administrator and Bargaining Unit member make other arrangements.

Bargaining Update

The Bargaining Team returned to the table today. Still on the table is Wages, Early Retirement, and Hours and Assignments.

The Bargaining Chairperson is Dianne Garcia-Stevens (LMI). Her team includes Neal Crook (MHS), Julian De La Torre (EAI), Elizabeth Gasca (RPE) and Dennis Irland (BGH). Executive Director Kathy Køhn advises the team.

CTA Retirement
Workshop

The CTA Retirement Workshop is Saturday, January 26. Reservations are due to the MTA office no later than Thursday, January 17. A fee of $2 for members will confirm the reservation. This is an extremely popular conference and fills up quickly.

MUSD Sponsors STRS Workshop

The Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) and the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) will conduct a retirement planning workshop Wednesday, March 6 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Board Room in the District Office. No reservations are necessary. Sign-ups for individual interviews, scheduled for April 19 will be taken immediately after the seminar.

Early Retirement Option Deadline
Is Monday, April 15

If you are planning on early retirement at the conclusion of the current school year, you must complete and return the option form to the certificated personnel office no later than Monday, April 15. You must be between 55 and 60 years of age and have 15 years of experience with the District to qualify for the option. You are not obligated to include a letter of resignation at the time of completing the option form. Call Jean at extension 2329 for more information.
The MTA Retirement is scheduled for Friday, May 31. Please contact the MTA office is you are planning to retire or know someone who is. We plan to make this an evening to remember!
